About SMEST
In 2008 and 2009, the National Standardization Bodies of the Netherlands (NEC/NEN), Sweden (SIS), Hungary (MSZT) and Slovenia (SIST) will do a project to assist SMEs. The main purpose is to promote the involvement of SMEs from the 12 new CENELEC and CEN National Standardization Bodies, coming from the new EU Member States, in the European standardization processes.
The project is initiated and financed by the European Commission and EFTA. It aims at providing an effective tool to support the successful implementation of the EU policies and activities in this field. The project partners will develop a toolkit and organize train the trainer' activities. They believe that it is of primary importance to ensure user friendly means able to provide easy, clear and effective replies to the questions or doubts that SMEs may have.
The toolkit of training material for the promotion of participation in European standardization should focus on three main issues, awareness, information and participation. To ensure widen access to information and increase awareness on the importance of SME participation in standards a website is developed.
